On May 11, 2010, I got a call from a friend about a hawk that hit a downcity shop window and was now just sitting on the sidewalk… so I grabbed my camera and called RI DEM for advice and help. They sent officer Mark Saunders who quickly netted the red-tailed hawk and placed him inside a box for transportation. Mark said it’s a common occurrence for a young, novice hawk to chase a reflection in a window and end up flying into glass.
I followed up the next day and learned the hawk was kept overnight for observation, given some food and water, and deemed to be ok for release back into the wild immediately… he was just a bit shocked from the impact, but had no injuries.
