Did you know that harbor seals visit in Rhode Island in the wintertime? I didn’t, so yesterday I went on the Save The Bay: Seal Watch Cruise to check ’em out.
from savebay.org/seals:
Surprising to many Rhode Islanders, harbor seals are common inhabitants of Narragansett Bay from October through April. Each fall, harbor seals migrate south from Maine and the Atlantic Provinces of Canada following their prey to the warmer waters and protected harbors of Narragansett Bay.

I actually HAVE known about them for some 15 years now. The first time I saw one was similar to your bottom pic here while February fishing off of Breighton Pt. Powerplant. At first I thought it was a black garbage bag floating on the water… then it blinked. Stole some fish off of our lures too. Cool shots as always!!!
We were at one of the State Beaches today and are pretty sure we saw one
