I found this Red-tailed Hawk again today, still a few blocks from the Rhode Island State House, and still with leather straps (jesses) around both feet. It’s been 8 days since I last looked for him, so he could have flown anywhere he wanted by now. It was very nice to see him alive and well.
Perched on a lamppost, he spied something moving in the snowy bushes below… then he suddenly leaped down and I heard some sort of mammal screaming… it was sad to hear but I’m happy that the lost hawk is able to hunt and survive on its own.

Gruesome, but natural behavior….
Feel like I’m right there ripping that flesh along with him/her….awesome photography!
