I was in Boston for a few hours and decided to check out The Fens where I’d heard Red-tailed Hawks were common. And it didn’t take long to find them… while walking thru Fenway Victory Gardens, a hawk flew overhead with a twig in its talons and I saw it land in a tree just above my head… I was standing right under their nest!
The nest looks pretty small, so I guess they’ve just started building it… I watched them use their beaks to break twigs off of nearby branches and fly them over to the construction. It was awesome to see them using their brains creatively.
I was also really happy to get sharp images of a pair of Northern Cardinals in the gardens… and a cute lil Downy Woodpecker posed too.

Great Pictures :)… just curious, what camera do you use and lens?
Thanks – currently I have a Canon 7D and a Sigma 50-500mm lens. I’m very happy with them both.
It was great to meet you (and these hawks) in Fenway! Thanks for leading us to your site — fantastic photos!
Thanks for commenting, Emily, I enjoyed talking to you guys too. Please post updates on the fenway hawk nest if you see more activity up there, thanks!
