Sunshine reflecting off snow resulted in beautiful lighting for super-sharp images today. When I arrived in the park this morning, there was a man feeding seeds to a flock of pigeons by the fountain… and a big hawk already standing on one of them, struggling to escape. He brought it over to a small tree and started the usual routine… defeathering… decapitation. Two brave squirrels took the opportunity to investigate a plastic bottle nearby. Minutes later, the hawk lifted his prize up to a tree branch and I left him to enjoy breakfast alone.

Fantastic series of photos. I love how you’ve captured how the hawk’s typical, “What am I going to do now?” gaze.
Thanks for the great photos!
The mid-flight carcass retreat shot is stupendous!
