The Red-tailed Hawks at Rhode Island Hospital came up in conversation a few times recently, so I thought it would be a good time to profile them on this site…
Every year this pair makes a nest on the brick smokestack, far out of reach from any human interference, but visible from various vantage points around the hospital grounds. In the springtime, I enjoy riding my bike over there to check on their progress.

Sadly, only one baby survived last year that I know of…one was found about 20 yards from the nest but I was unable to give him/her a proper burial…so sad. But new hope springs, as this year (2011) I have seen both mom and dad hanging around together (I have named them Liz and Dick) and God willing, we will have our usual clutch of 3 eggs and 3 survivors. Lots of yummy pigeons and squirrels to keep those hungry mouths fed. Beautiful pics as usual, Peter!
