Every spring since 2008, I’ve watched swans sitting on eggs in downtown Providence, eagerly awaiting sight of the babies… and when they arrive, it’s truly adorable. But then it gets sad as they start to disappear one by one… likely due to predators like the local raptors. It’s also sad to see their nest filled with trash from messy humans.
Despite the low survival rate of their babies in this location, the swans are back again this year. Below are shots of them constructing the nest in the water by Canal St. When they go into the water for a drink, I can see the eggs… there’s one so far this year…
